HUMAN RESOURCES TRAINING

The team of personnel from the ten RIDESA member Universities dedicated to the genetic improvement program for obtaining RB cultivars is made up of 275 professionals, distributed as follows:

275 PROFESSIONALS

  • 46 teachers

  • 46 researchers

    • 39 agronomists

    • 4 biologists

    • 1 chemist

    • 1 biotechnologist

    • 1 zootechnician

  • 57 agricultural technicians

  • 19 administrative

  • 107 operational support

HUMAN RESOURCES

130 students per year

  • 102 undergraduate students

  • 28 students from postgraduate programs (Specialization, Master's, Doctorate and Post-doctorate)

In addition to its significant success in developing RB sugarcane varieties for Brazil, this network stands out for its human resource development. The existing infrastructure within universities has provided support for training undergraduate and graduate students in this crop. Hundreds of trained professionals are now working in the private sector and public institutions.

Internships and/or scholarships are awarded annually to approximately 100 undergraduate students in various fields, with a strong emphasis on scientific initiation scholarships for sugarcane research. The RIDESA Universities' graduate programs (Specialization, Master's, Doctorate, and Postdoctorate) also annually train Specialists, Master's, Doctorates, and Postdoctorates in research related to sugarcane improvement. A variety of scientific methodologies have contributed to the continuous advancement of knowledge about improving this crop. Of note is the Residency in Agronomy with Specialization in Sugarcane program, coordinated by UFRRJ in partnership with UFPR. This program, funded by ALCOPAR member mills in the state of Paraná, has trained 97 newly graduated agronomists since 2005. This training takes place within the plants themselves, under the supervision of professors from the universities coordinating the program.
